Problem Analysis

The University of Pennsylvania's human resource department utilizes two critical tools to manage the efficiency and reliability of the recruiting, hiring, and termination process. The PennFor hiring platform and HireRight background verification service are an essential component in UPenn's onboarding and offboarding processes, but are without issues. These flaws range from resume discrepancies to administrative inefficiencies. These challenges highlight gaps in accuracy and functionality, necessitating an examination to identify areas for improvements.

PennFor is the comprehensive human resources, payroll, and financial software used by University of Pennsylvania. This software serves as a platform for hiring processes, onboarding, and employee data management. An analysis of UPenn's software provided feedback that the software is not intuitive, making it difficult for users to navigate. System glitches and errors in data processing disrupt the onboarding process; such as hiring timelines. The ability to customize this system is limited which leads to inefficiencies.

HireRight is a 3PL, third-party service, utilized by The University of Pennsylvania to conduct background checks to verify employment history and educational credentials. Although HireRight is used by many organizations some issues remain a concern. These issues include discrepancies from errors on resumes and delays when HireRight is unable to verify educational credentials even when the information provided is accurate.
